You know what I’ve been thinking? Thirty goals in two games is, sort of, unheard of. Better yet, only six were allowed on the other end.
After 13 wins last spring from coach Al Eaton and company, Swampscott’s girls lacrosse team is off to quite the start in 2024. The Big Blue have defeated Saugus, 17-3, and Essex Tech, 13-3, for a perfect 2-0 start.
Leading the charge has been the ever-so-explosive Coco Clopton, who has scored nine goals across the two games. Not bad, huh?
But it’s been a total team effort. In the season-opener against Saugus, the victors received goals from Mia Dahlman (4), Avery Laundry (2), Madeline Goldman (2), Fiona Kearney (2), Samantha Demady (1), and Lauren Burse (1). Cecilia Tripp and Mia Leone played the roles of facilitators.
Fast forward a few days, and the barrage never let up against Essex Tech. Tripp went home with a hat trick, while Demady and Sophia Ciciotti netted two apiece.
A question not many people ask – is it Monday yet? The Big Blue visit Winthrop at 5:15 p.m. and look to keep the explosion going.
Swampscott, good week.
