Thursday was opening day in girls lacrosse, and Swampscott (1-0) came out of the gates firing on all cylinders.
The Big Blue – true to their name – defeated Saugus (0-1), 17-3.
Swampscott received goals from Mia Dahlman (4), Coco Clopton (4), Avery Laundry (2), Madeline Goldman (2), Fiona Kearney (2 goals, assist), Samantha Demady (1), and Lauren Burse (1). Cecilia Tripp provided four assists, while Mia Leone dished out another.
A strong start for Swampscott, which, last year, sported a 12-4 record in the regular season.

It’s important to defend home turf, especially early in the season, and that’s exactly what the Pioneers did Thursday afternoon.
It was, frankly, a thriller that could have gone either way with the score reading 6-4 at halftime in favor of the hosts. But in the second half, coach Christina Serra and her Pioneers finished off the Falcons for good.
BOYS LACROSSE
Thursday’s game between Lynn and Malden/Pine Banks was postponed to Monday.
