The Sachems lose a close one on home court.

“A well-played game by both teams, [we] just didn’t come out on top,” Sachems coach Joe Bertrand said.

Isaiah Rodriguez and Danny Shea both scored 11 points. Ryan Shea (9) and Cam Victor (7) also chipped in for Saugus.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Gloucester 32

Sophomore Peyton DiBiasio scored over half of the Sachems’ (4-2) points as she erupted for 23 points. Not only did DiBiasio have the hot hand, she made her presence felt on the defensive end, drawing a charge in the win.

The Sachems were down 10 entering the fourth quarter, but they didn’t let that bother them, in particular junior Ella Castle. Castle scored eight points including “two huge fourth-quarter threes” according to head coach Joe Lowe.

“[I] was proud of the grit and team play defensively to battle back in a hard-fought game,” Lowe said.

The Sachems will travel to Masco on Thursday for a 7 p.m. tip-off.

Sophomore Sophia Coburn contributed with eight points and six rebounds.

The Tanners will host Winthrop on Thursday at 7 p.m. while the Magicians will host their rivals Swampscott on the same day and time.
