ROUNDUP: Peabody boys basketball continues to roll

When you’re 11-2 you must be doing something right. Peabody beat Danvers 71-44. Head coach Thad Broughton has his Tanners cruising through the regular season.

Senior Raphel Laurent led the way scoring a game-high 32 points while grabbing six rebounds and dishing out five assists.

Jariel Tolentino (11 points), Aneudy Medrano (9 points), Jim Festa (6 points and 8 rebounds), and John Lucas (6 points) helped pace the Tanners.

Broughton praised Cam Connolly for “playing very well.”

The Sachems will look to rebound against Winthrop at home on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Swampscott 53

The Big Blue (7-5) found themselves down nine (26-35) at halftime but that didn’t deter them. Swampscott came back and took a four-point lead with 2:30 left in the game.

However, the lead didn’t last long. According to head coach Jason Knowles, “Masco took advantage of some costly fouls and turnovers” to steal the win.

Connor Chiarello led the way for Swampscott with 19 points and five steals. Liam Wales scored 12, while Adam Sparacio added eight points.

Swampscott’s next game is on Thursday when it travels to Gloucester for a 7 p.m. game.

Winthrop 50

The Magicians protected homecourt with a dominating win. The Magicians led 42-21 at half and didn’t look back.

Marblehead will travel to Salem on Friday at 7 p.m. to take on the Witches.

Masco 37

Swampscott 32

The Big Blue fell short to Northeastern Conference rivals Masco. The game was back-and-forth with both teams being level at 18 after the second quarter.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

Salem 95

Lynn Classical 64

The Rams swimming and diving team may not have come out of their meet with a win, but there were plenty of solid performances.

Senior captain Camille Mendonca won two events in the 50 and 100 freestyle.

Lynn Classical’s relay team took home second place in two events

The 200-medley relay team was swam by Kaydee Rouse (Rouse also placed second in the 100 backstroke), Amanda Hughes, Mendonca, and Samuel Martin.

The other relay team to place second was in the 400 freestyle relay which consisted of Jakub Polski, Martin, Rouse, and Mendonca.

Head coach Denise Silva highlighted Kelsey Sinapius, Jessica Howell, and Gianna Fortes for “stepping up.”

The Rams next meet is on Thursday when they travel to Medford.

TRACK AND FIELD

It was a good night for Lynn Tech over in Boston. Despite the boys team not pulling off the win against Greater Lawrence, there were some solid individual performances.

Head coach James Runner highlighted two of his boys runners  Diego Castro and Bryton Osgood.

“These two boys performed really well in the 600 and the one mile,” Runner said.

The girls team defeated Greater Lawrence.

“Amaya Williams is our senior 55-meter runner. She was really good today,” Runner said. “It was even better because she ran in front of the Suffolk coach where she’ll be running next year.”

Runner also praised junior Jirelis DeJesus.

“She took first place in the hurdles, high jump, and the 300. She’s been amazing all season and might be the MVP of the conference this year,” Runner said.

“I’m happy for my girls team. We can solidify our third straight conference championship at our next meet against Innovation,” Runner said.
