Lynnfield, KIPP and Marblehead all saw its postseason come to an end on Friday night.
Hudson 27
Lynnfield 13
The postseason journey for Lynnfield ends at Hudson. The No. 5 Pioneers had trouble finding its offense in the first half trailing No. 4 Hudson 13-0 at halftime.
To start the third quarter Lynnfield’s quarterback Tyler Adamo connected with Joey Cucciniello for a 57-yard score (13-7).
However, the one-possession game didn’t last long as Hudson’s running back broke free for a 76-yard run to give the Hawks their two-possession lead again (20-7).
Lynnfield’s defense stopped Hudson inside the 10-yard line. The Pioneers took control of the ball and Adamo found Zahir Mitchell who showed off his speed taking the ball 95-yards to the house (20-13).
Unfortunately for Lynnfield, it couldn’t stop Hudson on the night meaning its postseason run comes to an end.
“We had trouble with their quarterback, [who was] very dynamic. We needed a few more plays to go our way,” Pioneers coach Pat Lamusta said. “Playing from behind was a challenge.”
Carver 49
KIPP 27
No. 7 KIPP traveled to No. 2 Carver as the underdog and couldn’t come home with a storybook ending.
Head coach Jim Rabbitt praised Carver saying they were a “very very good” team.
Morenel Castro finished the game with 12 catches for 110 receiving yards and two touchdowns including a rushing touchdown.
Chanel Gutierrez registered 190 yards through the air with three touchdowns. In addition, Gutierrez rushed for 108 yards on 15 carries.
Rabbitt was pleased with his team’s effort for the 48 minutes.
“The kids fought to the end,” Rabbitt said.
KIPP will now turn its sights to Lynn Tech for a big Lynn rivalry showdown.
Grafton 17
Marblehead 6
The No. 14 Magicians magical run came to an end at No. 6 Grafton. The Magicians were down 6-7 at the half, with both teams’ defenses proving to be tough to break down.
Quarterback Colt Wales connected with senior captain Andy Palmer for the Magicians’ lone score in the second quarter.
The Magicians forced a turnover in the third quarter to give them great field position but couldn’t convert a fourth-and-one giving the ball back to the Gators. On the next play, Grafton’s running back ran the ball 75 yards to the house to give the Gators a 14-6 lead after the extra point.
Later in the third, the Gators made a 20-yard field goal to extend the lead (17-6).
With 1:15 left in the fourth quarter, Marblehead had a field goal attempt blocked. Grafton ran out the clock to advance to the next round.
