Mother of three needs help from Item Santa

During the holiday season, the gift of giving brings joy to everyone around the world. But some people need help so they can give to those closest to them. Despite being known as the jolly season, holidays sometimes bring hardships to families.

Being a stay-at-home mother while raising three children is hard, especially when they rely on a single income. According to a September report by CNBC, a family of four in Massachusetts needs to earn $142,341 to “get by.” Item Santa is looking at this family of five this Christmas season.

“My partner is the only one who works but really only enough for the necessities,” she said.

For this family, not only do they rely on one income, but health issues also raise difficulty this holiday season.

“I get iron infusions every three months due to my lack of iron,” she said. “My lack of iron [raises] the chances of me becoming anemic again… With the grace of God, I’ve gotten better.”

Every child deserves to get presents during the holiday season, and one’s situation shouldn’t stop them from being able to put a smile on their face.

“This year, I want to bring joy to my kids, and may this year be full of joy, health, and love,” she said.

Now in its 57th year, the Item Santa Fund helps to make Christmas brighter for those in need. To donate, clip the coupon in The Item and mail it, along with your check, to The Item Salvation Army Santa, 85 Exchange St., Lynn, MA 01901.

There is also a way to donate online through the Salvation Army at itemsanta.org.

All donations are listed in Item print editions through the month of December and into 2024, along with a brief message from each donor, if desired.

NOTE: The application period for aid from Item Santa has closed, and The Item does not process applicants. All questions about the program and distribution of gifts should be directed to the Salvation Army at 781-598-0673.
