The Daily Item won third place in the front page category at the New England Newspaper and Press Association’s Better Newspaper Competition.
NENPA, the professional trade organization for newspapers in the region, recognized The Item for its April 21 edition, which was based around the theme of “Will AI replace us?”
The page featured a commentary by then-News Editor Rachel Barber, a commentary written by ChatGPT, and a comprehensive article by then-Reporter Emily Pauls about AI’s role in the area’s schools, all surrounding an illustration by Art Director Samuel Deeb.
