PRAGUE, Czech Republic: Restaurants, bars and nightclubs in the Czech Republic will open their doors to indoor dining beginning on Monday.

The government had planned to reopen dining in mid-June, however, the country’s Supreme Administrative Court ruled this week that blanket restrictions on restaurants were illegal.

Following the court ruling, Health Minister Adam Vojtech announced the near-immediate easing of COVID-19 restrictions.

Additionally, tourists from some European and overseas countries who have had at least one Covid vaccination will be able to enter the Czech Republic beginning on Tuesday.

The openings follow the Czech government imposing restrictions after one of the world’s most severe second waves of the pandemic struck the country.

“I am not entirely happy that we have to make such a radical easing in one moment. If it were not for the court ruling, then I would suggest sticking to the June 14 date,” Vojtech said on Friday.

Restaurants have only been able to serve customers outdoors since May 17.

Also starting Monday, swimming pools, saunas and casinos will reopen, and the number of patrons admitted to shows and sports events will increase.

As the country’s borders reopen on Tuesday, vaccinated visitors from Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Austria and Germany, as well as Australia, Israel, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand will be admitted.

With a population of 10.7 million, the number of people receiving vaccinations has reached some 100,000 per day.
