After meeting VP Harris, Vermont Lt. Gov. tests positive for Covid

BENNINGTON, Vermont: Lt. Governor Molly Gray of Vermont tested positive for Covid following a meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris.

Gray is running for the state’s lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Gray, who has received her booster shot, tweeted that she tested positive for the virus this week and is quarantining at home.

Gray visited the White House this week as part of a group of lieutenant governors from around the country, later chairing a meeting of the Vermont Senate on March 30 in Montpelier and hosting students from Champlain College in her Statehouse office.

While she was not seen to wear a mask when meeting Harris, she wore a mask in the Vermont Senate chamber. Andrew Gillespie, her chief of staff, told VTDigger, “There were moments in her office when she removed her mask.”

This week, the Legislature made wearing face coverings optional in most areas within the Statehouse, with some exceptions.

Gillespie also told VTDigger that Gray was experiencing mild cold-like symptoms.

According to both Gillespie and Samantha Sheehan, Gray’s congressional campaign manager, she did not meet with members of Vermont’s congressional delegation while in the capital.

Sheehan noted that Gray held in-person meetings with campaign staff who tested positive this week, and she attended several in-person campaign events in Bennington, where photos and videos posted on social media and published by the Bennington Banner showed her without a mask.
