PEABODY — A single-car accident on 6 Essex Center Drive, the roadway behind the Northshore Mall, caused a BMW sedan to flip over on Tuesday.
According to Police Lt. David Bonfanti, the driver was traveling in the direction of Lahey Medical Center.
“How the accident happened is still under investigation,” Bonfanti said. “The car did flip over, all the airbags were deployed. The driver was treated on scene but refused medical.”
Bonfanti said that the both the Fire and Police departments and Atlantic Ambulance were there because “a pole got split when the car hit it.” The Peabody Municipal Light Plant was also on the scene.
“It’s still under investigation by the patrol division,” Bonfanti said. “The roads are closed off for now, and I’m guessing it will be closed off for at least another couple of hours until the PMLP can fix that pole.”
Bonfanti added that it is unknown if anyone will be cited at this time, and that pole number 176 was damaged.
