You know what I’ve been thinking? It’s one thing to play a role in your first postseason run. But for this freshman, she’s led the way through two rounds of Division 1 girls hockey action.
St. Mary’s Bella Freitas, the Catholic Central’s Most Valuable Player, has made the fans at Connery Rink celebrate, well, five times through two home games.
In Wednesday’s round one matchup against No. 31 Weymouth, the hosts skated to a 5-1 win with Freitas netting a hat trick in her first playoff game.
That makes it a hat trick in her first regular season game (Bishop Fenwick in December) and state tournament game.
Then, three days later in a 4-2 win against No. 18 Boston Latin, the sniper scored twice in the final two minutes to win the game for the Spartans.
Not a bad start for No. 18.
Freitas and company turn their attention to No. 7 Shrewsbury (TBD) this week in a revenge matchup, harkening back to last winter’s championship game at TD Garden.
Bella, good week.
