SAUGUS — Two cars crashed into the former site of a Boston Market on Route 1 Monday night, sending the driver of one vehicle to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Saugus police responded to 168 Broadway at 7:23 p.m. and found two cars inside the former restaurant — a sedan and an SUV. Police found a 62-year-old man inside the SUV, and the sedan was unoccupied, Police Chief Michael Ricciardelli said in a statement.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but police believe the 62-year-old man may have lost control of his Volvo SUV and crashed into an unoccupied parked car in front of the shuttered restaurant, the statement said.
The man was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
A photo provided by the department shows one vehicle on its side and another completely overturned inside the former restaurant.
