5 Important Tips for Cleaning the Exterior of Your Jeep

After driving through rough and muddy terrain, your Jeep will probably be filthy. You’ll need to clean it off so that it can look as impressive and shiny as it did the day you bought it. Before you do that, review these five important tips for cleaning the exterior of your Jeep.

Tip #1: Don’t Leave the Dirt On for Long

You may take pride in how dirty your Jeep got after your latest adventure, but don’t leave that mud on it for too long. After it hardens, it becomes harder for you to remove. It also gets more difficult to take off without damaging the finish of your Jeep, which will hurt its appearance.

Tip #2: Wash It With a Pressure Washer

Another important tip for cleaning the exterior of your Jeep is to use a pressure washer as you clean it. Unfortunately, a garden hose doesn’t have the strength a power washer has to completely remove all the dirt and other debris on your exterior.

If you wash your Jeep to prepare it for the spring, don’t stop after you’ve washed off its body. Instead, use that pressure washer to clean your undercarriage so that you can remove any remaining winter salt and other dirt. This step can help prevent your Jeep from developing corrosion.

Tip #3: Don’t Take a Soft Top Into a Car Wash

It’s easy to consider using a car wash to do the hard work for you when cleaning your Jeep. If you have a soft top, it’s not a good idea, though. An automated car wash can damage your windows and ruin your top. It’s better that you do it yourself instead.

Tip #4: Avoid Ammonia and Alcohol

When choosing cleaners for washing your Jeep, avoid ammonia- or alcohol-based ones. Unfortunately, these can cause the plastic surfaces on your vehicle to change color or deteriorate. Household cleaners with these same ingredients can be harmful to your soft-top material, so avoid them as well.

Tip #5: Make Sure You Clean Your Tires

If you’re thinking about skipping over the task of cleaning your Jeep’s tires, think again. It’s important to remove clumps of mud after off-roading. They can later cause an imbalance in your wheels, resulting in your vehicle shaking and wearing your treads. By removing these clumps, you’ll prevent future damage.

When you properly maintain your vehicle, you’ll take better care of its condition. You’ll also make your vehicle look clean until, of course, you get it muddy again.
